OVERVIEW

RAi UK is committed to working closely with industry partners, civil society and policy makers to:

  • Connect the AI ecosystem both nationally and internationally.
  • Create and operationalise responsible AI research and innovation.
  • Address skills gaps in the AI ecosystem.

Outputs will also include strategic national and international partnerships, a 10-year roadmap for delivering responsible AI in the UK, specific policy recommendations, business cases for new and innovative research programmes and more.

OBJECTIVES

The Partner Network will seek to achieve the following and more:

  • Offer real-world perspectives on both responsible and irresponsible applications of / approaches to AI and shape understanding of the successes and failures that lead to such outcomes.
  • Propose case studies relating to the design, operation and applications of AI that introduce new challenges for users, organisations and society. These challenges will go beyond the purely technical elements and touch upon notions of legality, societal values and ethics.
  • Offer opportunities for secondments (inward and outward) to share knowledge, experience and skills.
  • Draw upon early research results to introduce responsible and trustworthy AI practices into daily work practices, governance structures, guidelines, business models, policy etc.
  • Fund challenge-led research to address emerging or urgent industry or government concerns, focusing on multi-disciplinary research approaches.
  • Promote, shape and share Responsible (Research and) Innovation practices developed by RAi UK and the wider AI ecosystem.
  • Draw out toolkits and methodologies for responsible and trustworthy AI, whilst also training researchers and industry practitioners in responsible AI practices.

PARTNERSHIP PROTOCOLS & TIER SYSTEM

Businesses, government agencies/policy makers, civil society representatives and other key stakeholders are encouraged to join the Partner Network to contribute to RAi UK’s strategy and delivery plan. There are three distinct tiers of partnerships that RAi UK offers to define expectations for both RAi UK and its partners. These tiers are starting points for conversations with individual partners to define a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to be signed by the Responsible AI UK CEO and a senior contact point within the partner organisation. Please see Annex 1.

The following section on indicative partner benefits and contributions provides a general outline of expectations within each of the three tiers, and the MOU will set out the specifics of each individual partner arrangement.

It should be noted that all partners in all tiers will commit to attend bi-monthly Partner Network meetings as part of our governance and networking structure. Non-attendance at more than two consecutive meetings will automatically trigger a revision of the MOU signed by the two parties. The MOU will be reviewed by RAi UK and its partner on an annual basis to evaluate and update the scope of collaborations.
