The A to Z of AI – A Picture Book for Young Readers

Key Stage:

Early years (4-8)

Topics:

Algorithms, Art & Design, Bias & Fairness, Creative Exploration

Resource type/format:

Children’s Book

To reach younger audiences, Professor Oli Buckley (Professor in Cyber Security) and colleagues from the skills project.Exploring AI: From Picture Books to Epic Games  created  The A to Z of AI.

This is a colourful, illustrated picture book introducing 26 key concepts related to AI, one for each letter of the alphabet. Aimed at children aged 4–8, the book simplifies complex ideas like algorithms, bias, deepfakes, and ethics using playful rhymes, vivid illustrations, and relatable examples.

Designed to support early AI literacy, the book helps children and their families engage with the technology shaping their future in a way that is accessible, fun, and thought-provoking.

The book was the basis for a hands-on creative workshop at the Norwich Science Festival (Feb 26) blending art, technology, and imagination as children (ages 5-8) were able to dream up and design their own robots for the future.
