The team aim to enhance AI literacy and public awareness of responsible AI by developing two educational resources. The first is an A-to-Z picture book aimed at KS1 and KS2 children, introducing core AI concepts through engaging illustrations and age-appropriate text to foster early engagement. The second resource is a scenario-based megagame for older children and adults, blending tabletop, role playing, and applied games to immerse players in responsible AI scenarios. These tools will foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and a deeper understanding of AI.

Activities and Achievements

This project explored how creative, playful approaches can support public understanding of artificial intelligence (AI). Through two distinct but complementary activities, we aimed to demystify AI and prompt critical conversations about its impact on society.

  1. Show Runner – A Mega Game About AI, Media, and Trust

We developed Show Runner, a large-scale, team-based mega game in which players run fictional TV broadcast studios in a near-future world shaped by AI. Over nine game rounds, teams produce shows, negotiate deals, and compete for viewers, all while navigating the ethical, regulatory, and financial risks of integrating AI into creative work.

The game challenges participants to weigh cost-saving AI technologies against audience trust and watchdog scrutiny, simulating the pressures faced by real-world media organisations. It has been successfully playtested with a mix of students, educators, and professionals, sparking rich discussions about AI governance, misinformation, and creative integrity.

  1. The A to Z of AI – A Picture Book for Young Readers

To reach younger audiences, we also created The A to Z of AI, a colourful, illustrated picture book introducing 26 key concepts related to AI, one for each letter of the alphabet. Aimed at children aged 4–8, the book simplifies complex ideas like algorithms, bias, deepfakes, and ethics using playful rhymes, vivid illustrations, and relatable examples.

Designed to support early AI literacy, the book helps children and their families engage with the technology shaping their future in a way that is accessible, fun, and thought-provoking.

Collaboration Grant

In December 2025 the team were successful in applying for an RAi UK Collaboration Grant to continue their work – read more about the follow on project.

Impact

Together, Show Runner and The A to Z of AI demonstrate how games and storytelling can be powerful tools for public engagement with emerging technologies. By reaching both adults and children, the project supports lifelong, inclusive AI literacy and encourages informed, imaginative conversations about the role of AI in everyday life.

Outputs and Outcomes
