Athina Georgara is a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, funded by the Responsible AI (RAI) project. She acquired her PhD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (IIIA-CSIC), where her doctoral research focused on developing trustworthy task allocation mechanisms for human teams.
Her research lies at the intersection of multi-agent systems, cooperative game theory, and explainable AI, with a particular emphasis on optimisation and team formation. Dr Georgara is interested in advancing the theoretical and practical foundations of trustworthy multi-agent systems, aiming to enhance transparency, reliability, and efficiency in collaborative and socio-technical environments.
Her recent work includes the development of post-hoc explanatory systems for machine learning classifiers, the design of mechanisms for power grid expansion integrating renewable energy sources, and the application of dynamic pricing models in the hotel industry to address overtourism. Collectively, these research directions contribute to improving explainability, fairness, and sustainability in complex decision-making processes involving both human and artificial agents.
