AI+Us Alliance 2026: University of Southampton 7th March 2026

Summary

On Saturday 7 March, AI@Southampton hosted the University of Southampton’s contribution to the national AI+Us training programme, bringing together students from across the University for a lively and engaging day of learning and collaboration.

The event opened with an in-depth introduction to GenAI tools, giving participants a strong foundation in ethical practice before moving into an interactive, hands-on session.  Teams then used AI to tackle a variety of community-focused civic challenges drawn from local authorities in the Southampton region. Participants applied their new AI skills to explore ideas and develop solutions, discovering how AI can be used responsibly to benefit society. The day culminated in the presentation of certificates to the teams, celebrating their skill, creativity and teamwork.

The atmosphere throughout was collegial, energetic, and full of curiosity. As one participant commented:

“Thank you…for such a brilliant event on Saturday. I learned a lot about prompt engineering and also laughed non‑stop with my team all day!”

A huge thank you to everyone who made the event possible, and to all our participants for their enthusiasm and engagement. Special thanks to RAi UK for funding the session through the AI+Us alliance and to our collaborators, the Digital Learning Team, who have been delivering AI training across the University since 2025.
